SUMMER WASHINGTON

As an ever changing artist, I have come to incorporate more than just surface beauty into
my art. In the beginning, I started with only focusing on the aesthetic of the piece rather than
what it actually means to me. As time has gone on, every piece has a significance to me at that
time. One work showcases dedication and diligence because of the amount detail and time I
spent on it. Another work may be simple yet significant event in my life. I also like to have an
underlying factor of representation within everything that I draw. I believe greatly that art speaks
about what is current, describes what a time period was to the next generation, and showcases every
aspect of what the subjects can be. I, as an artist, want to see myself in art. I want to make art that
other people can see themselves in.
